Wonderland Mug

I spent more than a few summer nights during high school at the Wonderland dog track in Revere with my friends. It was gleaming then, neon lit. Betting $2 a race on the longest shot, fantasizing about winning upwards of $40. That type of money might never run out.

My favorite part, other than the rare win, was right before the race when all the dogs were in the starting gate. Suddenly, the sound of machinery whirring, and movement along the inside track: what looked to be a white stuffed animal on the end of a long stick, speeding towards the dogs.

"THERE GOES SWIFTY!" a booming voice over the PA, and the dogs were out, furiously chasing the lure around the track. The race would end with Swifty coming to rest inside a small chain-link box just past the finish line, the panting greyhounds soon surrounding it, realizing too late they were running in vain.

Anyways, this 11 oz. dishwasher and microwave safe mug is about that.
